My Students

These students are tight knit, mature beyond their years, and in dire need of great materials. The staff is amazing, yet we are working in a district with less. We work in a school that is older than this teacher, and in need of climate control for a group of sweaty adolescents. I have three sets of siblings, a set of cousins, and students who have known their peers longer than their own siblings. It’s a great group of 5th and 6th graders.

My Project

My students need to feel comfortable in their classroom, feel able to learn in their own space, and have the ability to concentrate! My students up through October and starting again in March are sweating and have less patience for work in a room that has no AC and can get up to 80 degrees in the classroom. The school is old and our room has a whole wall of windows, which helps in the winter and really hurts in the late spring and summer times. The district has tried everything from plastic sheeting to planting trees, and nothing has kept the temperature low enough to work effectively in that room. I want my students to have the ability to learn in a space that is comfortable and effective to positive work and communication.
