Help me give my students get rid of the distractions with these classroom dividers. My students can and do get very distracted by all the things going on around them. This helps them focus on the task!
I work for a non profit intermediate unit which rents space in school districts for special education classrooms. These classrooms can range from MDS, Life Skills, Autistic support and Emotional support. There are many schools with intermediate unit classrooms throughout Bucks county. My classroom is Autistic Support Level 3, which means my students have high needs and levels of support for communication, hearing, physical and occupational support. All of my students have communication devices which are strictly for communication and they cannot access web, games, or any sites beyond their communication program. My students are learning to write, how to make purchases, daily living, and occupational skills. My students have a great sense of humor; however, require a large amount of sensory and visuals to help them throughout the day to keep that sense of humor and avoid becoming frustrated or upset.
My Project
I have chosen the Show It! Display System, 3 Panels because I had one donated to my classroom and have been using it for the past year. This one panel only gives us 1 quiet work space in our classroom. I would like to give my students more quiet work areas in the room and give them the opportunity to better digest new material and maintain their skills. These dividers are a great support to my students by allowing them to focus on the task presented to them. The students in my classroom can become and do become unfocused with all the surrounding noise and movements with 8 staff and 8 students as well as visitors (Occupational therapists, speech therapists, physical therapists and more) coming in and out of the room at all different times. This will help give my students independent work areas in the classroom to help keep these distractions limited!
