This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We are located in the beautiful Mt. Airy section of Philadelphia, PA. Our school is culturally, economically and racially diverse. At our school, we practice the 5 rules for conduct: be respectful, responsible, peaceful and careful, a problem-solver and learner. Through these 5 rules, we learn to be better citizens within our community. This year, I am teaching our students to be better citizens in our world and to have cultural sensitivity when we learn and listen to the sounds from around the world.
My Project
We enjoy exposing our students to a wide variety of musical performances. Our students engage in guided viewings of live orchestra performances, jazz ensemble performances, musical theatre, music videos, and opera, to name a few. Recently, we received a grant for a brand new TV on which to view musical materials. However, to make the experience complete for our students, we now need a sound bar. While the visuals are important, in a music class, it is of the utmost importance that students can hear music in high definition. A new sound bar would enhance our students understanding of the music. All 500 of our K-8 students would benefit from this project as well as all of our students in autistic support.
