Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work at a wonderful school with some really amazing kids. Kids that are passionate about learning and exploring numerous subjects. Unfortunately, my school district does not supply all the supplies needed for the day-to-day and so far I have bought most of my class supplies and furniture out of pocket. The last thing I need for my class is a classroom rug, which are much more expensive than I’d like to have to spend all on my own. If anyone could pitch anything in I would be incredibly grateful!
My Project
A great way to come together as a classroom community is to gather together on a big class rug. It’s where we start our mornings, share our ideas, have class meetings, and end our days together. It may seem like an insignificant thing, but having a durable and large rug can make a big difference in making students feel welcome and comfortable. In years passed I’ve either went without a class rug or borrowed used rugs from other teachers that never quite fit my whole class and made gathering on it awkward and stuffed together. It would make such a difference for me and my classes to have a rug that had a permanent place in my classroom!
