My Students

First grade is an amazing place to be! My 6 and 7 year olds are sponges soaking up knowledge each day. They love coming to school and are eager to share their experiences and connections they make to the learning in our classroom, as well as the world around them.

Communication is a key focus in their education, as it will allow my students to effectively exchange information and interact with others throughout their education and beyond.

Tapping into their individual likes and interests is how I begin to guide that communication coaching, and I enjoy getting to know my students better.

My Project

My students will use the A Place For Everyone Carpet as a common gathering place in our classroom. Class meetings, Socratic seminars, math, reading, and science instruction, in addition to partner and independent learning will all take place in this special place.

Students will each have their own space and will learn to respect other student's personal space as well.

This social skill will be used as a building block to scaffold the teaching of taking turns while speaking and listening, and buildings upon others thoughts to agree or disagree respectfully. This resource will be used daily to support the learners in our room.
