My students need comfortable and inviting reading chairs, active learning materials such as floor sized 100's charts and number lines, chair bouncy bands to help them engage
"Sitting still is overrated. It makes sense for the opera or for meditating, but in most classrooms and child care centers, it's given far more honor than it deserves. Children need to move." ~ NAEYC
Excited learners will enter my classroom this year ready to learn and have fun!
Our school serves an urban student body of diverse learners.
98% of students receive free or reduced meals and the majority of students are English Language Learners. Though it may seem that odds may be stacked against us, we continue to improve in all academic areas year after year through the commitment of teachers, staff, families and our awesome students!
My Project
My students will use these materials to engage in learning through movement and assist with meeting their sensory needs. Many students find kinesthetic learning to be the best way to retain and interact with new learning -- and as a teacher, I think kinesthetic learning is just plain FUN! With an active classroom, students also need calming places to focus and relax. Using chair bands assists over-active students in focusing during seated work, options for movement based learning activities like floor sized number lines and charts will engage all learners through fun group and independent activities. Comfy chairs in the library area will entice students to find their calm, to refocus and to engage in quiet, self-learning and other library activities.
Options for active learners will engage them in academic learning through fun, movement based activities.
Stocking our library with inviting chairs and places to cool-down and connect with their learning is essential to a successful Active Learners classroom. Students with special needs will have their sensory needs met and be able to focus on academic learning and will improve the entire classroom's dynamics and success!
