My students need some comfortable pillows and a bean bag to cozy up our classroom library! The Hokki stools will allow movement for active kids who need help focusing.
We are busy working and learning every day, but I always try to make things fun and include a lot of social interaction. The biggest challenge in my classroom each year is getting all of the students to reach the end of the year reading benchmark, so of course we do A LOT of reading!
For the most part our students are wonderful!
They come to school eager to learn, and they work hard. Some students start school more ready to learn than others, with more family support. We always have a few challenging kids, perhaps from less supportive homes, but we try our best to meet their needs.
Our classrooms are heterogeneous, and include many different levels of kids with diverse learning styles. We have teachers who are very supportive of each other, and we all work together to make sure our kids succeed.
Our school is in a suburban location, and has about 500 students. We used to have a lot of parent support, but that has changed over the past few years with more families needing double incomes. Recently, we had an affordable housing development built within our district, and that has brought more challenges, as many of the kids are low income and come from single parent homes.
My Project
The beanbag and pillows will be a very welcome addition to my classroom library. Currently, I have a few square cushions and a rocking chair that are highly popular during our daily independent reading time. The kids take turns with these seats each day, but I would love to have more options for them.
I am most excited about the possibility of Hokki stools in my classroom. In first grade kids are very active and "wiggly", especially the boys. We ask a lot of them each day, with a lot of sitting required. Kids simply don't get enough movement throughout the school day, and the stools will allow for more. I am excited to see if they improve focus as well!
These donations would make my kids even more excited to come to school!
I can imagine them anticipating their turn for the stools, and getting cozy and comfortable during reading time with the beanbag and pillows. Kids love to lay down and cuddle up with a good book! Hopefully these items will help them develop a lifelong love of reading.
The Hokki stools will change their lives for the better by allowing them to move more, and helping them to focus on their learning.
