Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach students with Autism in a self-contained classroom. I have ten students in my classroom ranging from grades 3rd through 5th. My students are a really wonderful group of children, many of whom come from bilingual households and receive free lunch.
These students have varying levels of abilities and in order to teach all of them the skills they need, I NEED to be organized.
Having a classroom with functional furniture will lend to this tremendously. The physical set-up of a classroom is important because it is the first thing a student see when they walk in.
We are blessed to have a larger classroom but have inherited a lot of the furniture from previous occupants from years past. Many of the storage options we have, such as shelves are old and broken. The casters are old and the wood is stained to put it lightly. I have tried to give the furniture a cosmetic lift but it is time for an update.
My Project
The materials and supplies that I am requesting for my students already have a "home." In other words, I know exactly where everything will go. We just need your help in getting everything through our door!
I have students with varying levels of Autism and in order to meet their academic, social, communication, behavioral needs, I need to have a well-organized classroom with centers!
Having new, functional shelving units with castors will allow me to set up centers in my classroom that meet the needs of all of the learners who call it home. Rather than placing items so they are out of the way or in a safe corner, I can set up these units so they are flexible! The padding will give my students a comfortable place to interact during recreational activities!
