My students need this bright, inviting carpet for story time, calendar time, and more. Each student will benefit from a comfy place to sit.

My Students
I am looking forward to meeting my new class of first graders next week. This will be my 30th year teaching at my school in Manteca, California. It is over 75% bilingual and over 75% free lunch. Some of my former students have become teachers, pastors, and politicians. I know that one of my students this year will be the daughter of a former first grader. It will special to have my former student helping in her daughter's class. I am excited to see my future students!
My Project
My students will know right where their place is on the rug. I will be able to call on students by color to read a sentence, answer a question orally, or be excused to their seats for independent work. This rug will be the place where students gather at the beginning of the day for calendar and opening activities. After lunch, the students will gather on the rug for a read aloud story. I had a rug like this when taught first and 2nd grade in the past. I had to share a classroom for 2 years when I was an intervention teacher. Because my space was limited, I donated my rug to the after school program.
