My students are an energetic bunch of passionate learners. They come into my room every day, eager to transport themselves into the worlds of our stories and to develop their own. Coming from a town of diverse socioeconomic and racial backgrounds, my students thrive in our school where kindness is the key to all decisions.
We strive everyday to be a classroom that exemplifies kindness and responsibility through our actions.
Creating a community of learners together is what we try to achieve.
My classroom is a little unconventional because we use flexible seating. Very few students sit in desks when participating in class and one of the most popular places to learn is on the floor. Students often work on science investigations and written arguments while sprawled out on the floor. We also start every academic class together in front of the board on the floor.
Unfortunately, the carpet that used to span my classroom floor recently had to be thrown away after a water leak.
We've really missed our carpet and need another to replace it. Learning together in collaborative groups is so critical to developing 21st century skills. Our carpet space allows us to do this regularly and in a comfortable way.
