The cost of 5 cartons of toilet tissue, 2 cartons of Purifed Energy Water, and 10 "Make A Teddy Bear" kits for children in New Orleans is $340, including shipping and <a target="new" href="http://www.donorschoose.org/html/fulfillment.htm" onclick="g_openWindow('http://www.donorschoose.org/html/fulfillment.htm', 300, 800, 'fulfillwindow');return false;">fulfillment</a>.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I would like for my students to understand the importance of giving to others in need. I would also like them to experience helping others in a small way that will have a large impact on those that receive it. The 20 fifth grade students in my classroom will be writing letters to the children and families affected by this disaster. I will help to focus the students writing around making connections between their experiences and feelings during 9/11, and how the children and families in New Orleans might be feeling.
In the box along with other supplies, I would like to try and have toys and stuffed animals they could send to the children.
