My Students

I teach at a Title I school in Danbury, CT. My classroom is diverse in all aspects from learning and academic strengths and challenges to ethnicity and family backgrounds. Many of my students face challenges inside and outside of the classroom or school setting.

Despite these challenges my students face within our classroom, we focus on learning to become independent thinkers, self-confident leaders, and problem-solving individuals.

My students overcome challenges daily and look for positive moments to keep them going. Regardless, they come to school with smiles on their faces and their ready-to- learn attitudes.

I strive to create an atmosphere where my students feel respected, challenged academically, and safe to take risks. I am hopeful that I can empower my students to be the best version of themselves they can be!

My Project

This year more than ever my students are in need of whole class breaks and even individual breaks throughout the day. These breaks help students become successful within their classroom as they are able to refocus themselves during those few minutes of a break.

Creating this calm down corner will allow my students to have a safe environment in the classroom to take breaks to refocus themselves.

One at a time students will be able to use the calm down corner when needed and set timers to keep on task. During this time students will have access to sensory toys, stress relief items and weighted stuffed animals. My goals is that this will have a positive impact on students' behavior, emotions and concentration in the classroom.
