Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach a special education moderate/severely handicapped Young Adult transition class for students 18-21 years old. Our class is a independent living, vocational, and community based program. The students learn independent living skills such as cooking, laundry, and money skills. They also learn vocational skills to be able to get supportive employment after completing the program. In addition it is community based and we go out into the community and learn skills to function as an adult (i.e. restaurant etiquette, community safety, and self-advocacy).
My students enjoy cooking and sports.
They love music and playing games.
My Project
Our classroom got broken into on Monday night. These items will be replacing all the items that were stolen. The dishes will be used weekly when they learn how to cook. The vacuum will help the students learn independent living skills. My students love playing games during P.E. time and our basketball was stolen. When I asked if they wanted another kind of ball they all said soccer and volleyball too.
