My students need books to read and write about. They do not have many books at home so these will help them be able to check books out from our classroom library to take home.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach at a school that is high needs. Many of the students come from homes that have low or no income. Some of them only get fed when they are at school. Many times they come to school with dirty clothes on, hungry, and with no supplies. Some of my students are being raised by grandparents and great grand parents because their parents can't raise them. They have a lot of deficits that we as a school are working hard to improve.
My Project
My students live in a high poverty area and they do not have many books at home so I would love to have a classroom books for students to be able to check out from the classroom and take home to read. They would return their books each day and check out a new book to read at home. This would help students with their reading comprehension and it would also give them more books that they can take Accelerated Reader tests on, which tests their reading comprehension skills. We would greatly appreciate any books that could be donated to our classroom.
