When my students walk into the classroom, they are ready to take on the world. While I have a variety of students from a variety of backgrounds, they all have one thing in common: they love to learn.
I don't think there's another group of students out there that works as well together, as a team, as mine do.
This is a rare quality in a classroom, to have everyone get along and look out for one another.
While some of my students started school with all of their wants and needs fulfilled, others only have some of their needs fulfilled and require extra love from their teachers in school. Together we make up a family and all of our wants and needs are met within the classroom, especially mine.
My Project
I want to continue to foster a love of reading for my students. I have read a picture book a day to my class this year, and I want to continue to make this possible through books that they can relate to. The benefits to reading picture books are astronomical. They can help students build community, develop empathy, have exposure to diverse stories and characters, give opportunities to have open discussions, and so much more.
I have chosen books that will allow my diverse population of students to see themselves, and maybe even have their eyes opened to what others are going through.
I have chosen books that I hope will inspire my class. I have chosen books that will have my students looking forward to our goal of reading a picture book each day.
I love being able to see the joy in their faces each time we sit down to read a book together. I especially value the sense of community that we develop as we discuss topics, learn about characters, and learn more about ourselves.
