I have 28 eager and energetic 3rd-grade students who enjoy working collaboratively in partnerships and enjoy moving around the classroom. They frequently engage in critical thinking. Third graders thrive on movement throughout the day inside and outside of the classroom to keep their brains refreshed.
The school I work in consists of K-5 elementary students.
We are a national Blue Ribbon School and take part in the Green School initiative. Our school is a Culture of Thinking school that takes part in many critical thinking activities.
My Project
I have become a book-a-day-classroom! Each day, every day I read one picture book to my class and we discuss the theme of the book and why the author wrote the book. My kids look forward to this every day.
My goal is to read 180 rich, meaningful picture books during the school year.
This has and will continue to help my students appreciate illustrations, pay closer attention to the writing craft of authors and find deeper meanings within text of picture books.
Books like Be Kind, What if Everybody Said, Let me Finish, That, and Worry Says What? will allow my students to build up social and emotional skills. The Book With No Pictures (no pictures) and The Boy with An Airplane (no text) will allow them to use their imaginations as they listen.
Your donations will help build my book-a-day-classroom library. These books teach social and emotional issues as well as content related ideas. My students will be able to connect to the characters within these books and build empathy and understanding through listening. I am helping to build a classroom of readers and appreciate the support of any donations to make this happen.
