This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Many of the students in my classroom have experienced trauma in their lives, and school is their safe place. They come to school to escape what is happening at home. My classroom serves students with a range of disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbance, autism spectrum disorder, and specific learning disabilities.
The typical student in my class struggles with basic phonemic awareness and letter recognition.
About 90% of my students are African American or Latino. The opportunity and achievement gaps are apparent among our student population.
My Project
I am requesting some classroom basics to help make our classroom run smoothly! I am asking for black and colored ink for my classroom printer.
We use our printer for a variety of things, including making activities for learning centers.
I am also asking for several sizes of post it notes to put in our classroom centers. We use post it notes for the students to write the letters, words, or sentences that they are learning. Then they post them in their homework journals to show their parents. I am also asking for new markers to use in our small group in stations.
