Our school is an arts magnet located in southeast Portland. We cherish and embrace the arts to allow students multiple mediums to freely develop their creativity and self-expression. My classroom is made up of 26 young developing learners of varying abilities and diverse backgrounds. We are learning to work together and grow as a community of learners.
We support each other and understand that everyone has different needs to be successful.
Both in the classroom and out, students need to develop self-regulation skills to grow into effective citizens and learners.
My Project
Some of the most basic necessities of any classroom are the writing utensils that students use everyday.
My project asks for pencils, special writing grips, erasers and a new pencil sharpener that will make the upkeep of these new pencils a breeze.
In addition to the writing tools, I’ve also asked for some special composition books, that are developmentally appropriate for my first grade students. It has widened lines along with a centerline to make letter formation easier. My students deserve to not worry about whether their pencils will work or break while working during the school day. Being a student is already tough, without additional stress.
