I am an autistic support teacher at a public school in Philadelphia, PA. Each student in my class has a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder and has an Individualized Education Program to help guide their instruction through differentiation, modifications, and accommodations in the classroom. The needs of my students will vary in many ways.
In order for students in my classroom to be successful, there are a number of materials to help engage them and assist with their daily individualized routine and to meet their academic and behavioral needs.
We will use a variety of hands-on experiences and opportunities to foster learning. Art is a great way for students to express themselves and to learn creatively. In order to learn through this avenue, materials are needed.
My Project
I teach a self contained kindergarten through second grade Autistic support class. In order to be successful my students depend on personalized daily schedules, task boxes, token boards and more in order to be successful. For all of these things to be success and last, particular materials are needed. Color ink is essential in order to keep the children engaged. Using laminating paper adds to the life of the materials, as with students there is typical wear and gear. Velcro keeps items attached and organized. All of the materials in this projects will directly impact my students daily. I look forward to being able to support my students with these items!
