My students need classroom basics including storage bins, Post-Its, highlighters, floor pillows, and a magnetic white board easel to facilitate their learning.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am a first year teacher for kindergarten in a PK-5 school in Baltimore City. Some of the kindergarteners have attended Pre-K at this school or another school, whereas for some this is their first year in school. In this class, I want to give them opportunities to explore and discover new material.
"The art of teaching is the art of assisting discovery." -Mark Van Doren
My goal for my students this year is to learn independence and allow for opportunities to take control of their learning. My kindergarteners will be invested in their learning by allowing for choice and ownership.
My Project
The bins for books, manipulatives, and center materials will allow students to easily access materials. The highlighters and Post-Its will facilitate research, good reader strategies, and guided reading groups.
The white board easel and calendar set are essential to any classroom.
As a first year teacher, I need to gather these materials in order to complete my classroom. The calendar is an essential part of the morning meeting routine. The white board easel will allow for teaching anywhere in the room. It will be used for daily morning messages and shared writing activities. It will also be an added benefit to other lessons and allow for student participation.
