Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I currently teach at a Title I school where the students benefit from the free breakfast and lunch program. I am so lucky to be able to work with this group of students. I want them to continue to come to school excited to learn and be able to have opportunities to engage in activities that they don't get outside of my classroom. Many of the students are from low socioeconomic families and do not have certain resources at home. With this project we will be able to have more classroom learning resources like manipulatives and books to help expand our learning!
My students are always excited to come to school and love to listen to stories and engage in hands on learning!
My Project
These resources will me to set up STEM bins for my students to engage in on a daily & weekly basis. Not only will they be beneficial for STEM learning, but they will also be used in free play, collaborative play, and used during math to help with challenging concepts. Students will have the opportunity to work in small groups with the different manipulatives. This will not only encourage hands on learning but allow students to engage with each other and learn how to work together. The books will allow me to do read alouds in the beginning and end of the school year. The topics help cover first day nervousness, trying your best, and learning to get along with others. In addition, some of the stories will help us close out the school year. The read alouds will allow the class to read a story together, reflect, and complete a closing activity. The other materials just as tape, clothespins, and white board markers are basic supplies that we use frequently and need to replenish for students.
Help my class create an engaging, exciting learning environment where they will continue to excel at learning and build a strong foundation as they continue the school year and also for the future students to come!
