This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach at an elementary school in the heart of a large city in Florida. My school is located in a community that has a majority of ELL students and parents. This is a Title I school with limited resources and all our students receive free breakfast and most receive free or reduced-priced lunch.
We are a fourth grade Special Education classroom that is part of the Autism Academy and most of our students are visual and tactile learners.
Our classroom has eight students with Autism, ADD/ADHD, sensory deficits, multiple disabilities, behavior deficits and speech and language impairments. Even with their disabilities, my students are smart, sweet and caring. They are excited to come to school daily. They love to read and work on projects. Our class is filled with diverse learners with a variety of different needs and learning styles.
We need your help to provide our classroom with basic classroom supplies that will support a print-rich environment and will encourage learning.
My Project
Having a magnetic dry erase board with colorful markers will be super handy to work with on a daily basis. My students would be able to use this board with the colorful markers or as a magnetic board with magnetic letters to create words, numbers or shapes. They could also use it with our magnetic money or other magnetic materials we might have.
My students are visual learners and some are non-verbal.
The folders will be used to hold our daily visual schedules and behavior charts as well as take home communication books to share our day with parents. This will give each parent a snapshot into their students day everyday.
