Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a fifth-grade teacher at a local ACES. I have 21 students enrolled in my classroom, all of which I adore for their unique backgrounds, cultures, skills/talents, likes/dislikes, and personalities. What makes our school and my classroom so unique is the fact that the parents are extremely involved. They are very appreciative of what I do and what their students have accomplished this year. My students and the other students come from many different families--including many different incomes.
Our school provides free breakfast to every student every single day of our school week.
Incredible right? We also provide free and reduced-price lunches to students who qualify. 40% of my classroom qualifies for free or reduced-price lunch. This gives you an idea of what our budget consists of and what type of funds I have as a teacher. My biggest goal in being an educator, their educator, is providing the best learning environment possible for all 25 of my different learners. I have ELL, Gifted, IEP students, and everything in between.
My Project
Hey, Google! What is the square root of 888? As a teacher, students ask questions all day and to be honest, sometimes I do not have time to stop what we're doing to go over to the computer to search up the answers.
By having a Google home device inside the classroom, we can have an electric teachers assistant at all times.
There are many ways to use a Google home device for my 5th grade students such as translating words for my Spanish speaking students, pulling an audio book for the students to listen and follow along to, having a audio countdown for transitions, definitions to unknown words that are not in the classroom dictionary, checking and solving math problems, and beyond. This is such a great technology component to introduce to children. Not only can we access what we need in a hurry, but it will create curiosity within each and every one of my students. The questions that they will come up are limitless!
