My class currently has 15 students (6 girls and 9 boys) ages 3-5 years old with special needs. Their special needs include developmental delays, language impairments, hearing impairments, autism, behavioral concerns, cerebral palsy and physical disabilities. Despite their challenges at such an early age, they are curious, happy, fun, loving, unique, animated and active learners! This class is in a public school setting and we partner with the regular education PreK class to have typical peer interactions and role models. The students love to learn through hands-on activities that require continuous replenishment of classroom materials. Thank you for keeping us going!
My Project
Classic story books offer repetitive lines, fun characters and stories that parents and children can instantly bond with. Life lessons can be learned through classic books as well as comical scenarios that everyone can giggle together about. Parents and families are sure to jump on board when their child tells them they are reading Goldilocks and the Three Bears or The Three Little Pigs!
Reading together is a natural way to bond with others and promote language.
The puppets will engage the students' creativity and memory as they recreate the stories with their own words. The puppets also offer a hands-on opportunity to retell the story using descriptive language, facial expressions, body movements and hand movements.
