Have you ever had to start over? Every four years? Our school is located on Air Force base housing with a 100% military population. My students have worldly experience through their deployments and military life experience. They are determined, responsible, and have empathy toward their peers.
My students have a variety of backgrounds and schema based on their military lives.
This can, at times, hinder their progress in academics. However, our students are pushing through any obstacles that they face and will continue to do so!
My Project
These novels will not only engage them as readers, but encourage them to use clues and infer a they progress through the book!
These titles are familiar to many adults and now have been revamped to entertain younger generations!
By combining the Oregan Trail with a “pick your own ending” style of reading, there are technically 20 different endings all wrapped up in one title. And, who doesn’t remember “Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego”? Well, now students can discover WHO she is! This novel series dives into character development while exposing students to various settings. Finally, my students are enthralled with the genre of graphic novels. I can now use that interest to hook them on one of my own favorite tales, “The Giver”!
