Classics Books, New Look, New Audience

My students need new graphic novels of old classic books.

My Students

Have you ever heard a child get excited about an old book, song or movie that they think they are the first one to discover? I want my students to get excited about these old classics with a new twist.

A snapshot of our middle school shows a diverse high-need school comprised of about 1,100 students in grades six to eight.

Half of our student population receives free or reduced priced lunch. Approximately half of our students receive support services in addition to their core classes. Many of our students are not native English speakers. The students have all been impacted by Hurricane Sandy.

My Project

The books I am requesting are all old familiar titles. Classics in the literature circles with a new graphic twist and format. Many of the children do not have the background knowledge to recognize a literary reference in popular culture. These books will give them a frame of reference.

Please support this project to help my middle school students become familiar with some of the best stories of our time with this great collection of new graphic novels for our library.
