Many of our students lack the opportunity to attend excursions and visit exciting places due to the fact that their families have a hard time just trying to make ends meet. Most of our students are sent to free after-school programs because both parents are working long shifts. As such, our students are in school from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. We want to provide an opportunity to show them that learning is hands-on, can be experienced outside of a school building, and found everywhere in an authentic way.
Based on past experiences, most of our students are not granted permission to attend trips that require an admissions fee (even at a lower or reduced cost) due to lack of affordability by family.
Yet students are still sent to school because the parents need their child to be looked after during their working hours. It is very disheartening to see any student have to remain behind while the rest of his/her class is off on an adventure. We are working hard to ensure that all of our students have equal access to the same opportunities and materials and that no one is left out.
My Project
This class trip to the National Museum of Mathematics includes one private educator-led, hands-on session in a classroom and up to 90 minutes of free exploration on the exhibit floor. My students will explore amazing exhibits, take part in inspiring activities, and have an experience they’ll never forget.
With your help, students will have a chance to open or reopen their minds by discovering a side of math they have never seen, and fall in love with learning again!
"Nothing beats an exciting hands-on experience to deepen learning." Please help make a class trip to the National Museum of Mathematics happen to my students this year with a donation!
