This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My school is located in an urban suburban community in a large city of Georgia. I teach at an open middle school. We accept students from all over my county. Although we are in the suburbs, we are still a Title I school.
We have students who don't have all the supplies they need which makes it hard sometimes to work on experiments in the lab.
I want to make learning equitable for everyone by providing some of the tools my students need to succeed.
My Project
Many students do not have access to the internet and technology outside of the classroom. Our state exams are delivered on the computer and require students to type their constructed responses. Many of my students are already weak writers. Having this laptop in the classroom will allow students to practice typing as well as give them access to online test prep and educational sites.
While the district makes laptop carts with 20 computers available, class size exceeds that number.
Adding another computer to my classroom will help create a 21st century learning environment. Students will be able to access an online classroom through Microsoft 365 Teams and regularly publish online content. These skills will be necessary for college and career readiness.
