Unlike most other classes, most of my computer science students start the beginning of the school year with little to background or experience in the subject area. My students are not discouraged by the amount of work they have do to and try to learn as much as they can. They enjoy working together as they find interesting ways to tackle the challenges presented in this class.
I am always in awe of my students drive and dedication to create the best programs they can.
Most of these students appreciate problem solving and seeing the results of their hard work. The stories and games they made with Scratch were more sophisticated than I thought possible!
Many of my students have told me that it is difficult to use a trackpad when using our school laptops. They think they can control the computers faster if they had a computer mouse connected to the laptops.
One of the concerns I have with teaching computer science is that every student comes to my class with a different experience with computer science and technology.
Some students need a computer mouse to give them more control of their computer. Giving students the option to use a computer mouse is one way to make some students feel more comfortable and productive in a computer science class.
