Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"With great power comes great responsibility," Spiderman said, and my students apply this quote in their everyday life. We now need generous supporters to help buy us books so we can take this quote further.
My students and I live on the border between Texas and Mexico.
This year the school has started an SAT class, and for the first time the students are dealing with work that is harder for them. My students are Hispanic. They have big dreams and big goals, and their plans are to go to college. Help us get there by supporting our cause so that we can have the opportunity to engage in rigor.
My Project
Our plan together is to read the text, Lord of the Flies, and create a shoebox project representing different scenes throughout the book. Students will present their shoebox project in front of the class to gain leadership skills, as well as confidence. Students will also be asked to dress up and reenact a scene from the story. We will also have seminars where students will be in control of leading the discussion by asking questions to their peers.
My students are just taught with short stories.
They never have to opportunity to engage in literature that every student deserves the opportunity to engage in. This will allow my students to see how reading can be fun and how it can build their own creativity and purpose in the world.
