Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My advisory class is leading this classroom project in purchasing class pets and caring for them. Since this is a science classroom it is my goal for students to learn more about the animals in our room. They will also have assigned tasks to help them have ownership over their classroom and school. These high school students are very excited about having class pets to care for and we are asking for additional funding to make this experience possible.
Furthermore, this will help students relieve stress and learn to care for others.
Our students will begin to work with our class pets- a snake, a gecko and a hamster. We are excited to develop skills to take care of pets. Students will learn how to feed, clean and care for pets. These animals will also serve as therapy animals, build teamwork and class ownership.

Class pets so that we are able to contribute to our classroom. We want to be able to take a break from the mental strain of the work we have to do in school and also escape from the stress we experience outside of school. We choose to have these 3 pets ourselves.
We will be determining roles in our classroom that we will need to take care of our new class pets. Students will decide and select what roles they want to play in taking care of the pets. They will have leadership and ownership in this project. This will also help them develop leadership outside of the school.
This project is important to us because we are needing to mental break from our academic case load. We also need therapy animals to help us deal with the stresses that we experience outside of school. This project will help us develop solutions to problems we see with our animals and in our school.
