My students need an aquarium, pump/filter and hood lighter to learn about the basic needs of organisms and how behavior is influenced by hunger and environment.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Do you remember the first time you asked your parents for a pet, and they said, "NO!" Help me provide 36 kids the opportunity to experience what it is like to have a pet - a CLASS PET.
National Science Standards suggest our students should learn about the basic needs of animals and how internal and external cues affect their behavior.
Many of our students live in apartment buildings or rental houses and do not have much experience with animals. What a wonderful experience to help these students not only learn about the needs of animals, but also the responsibility of caring for a pet.
My Project
With this project, we will acquire a 10 gallon aquarium with pump, filter, heater, and hood light. We will put fish and other creatures in the tank. Students will learn of the basic needs of each animal and attend to those needs. We will also document the behaviors we notice (like the way their behavior changes at feeding time).
This project is important for our students because so many of these children miss out on opportunities that others take for granted - like having a pet.
Please join in in providing more opportunities for this great group of kids.
