My students need supplies like snacks and party supplies for their Decision Day so they feel appreciated and supported. My students need to know that they are deserving of a fun and worthwhile event to celebrate their accomplishments.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students inspire me everyday. They are determined. They are smart. They are resourceful. They have so much school spirit and support each other very much. Most of my students are low-income, underrepresented, and first-generation college students. My mission at my school is to promote a college-going-culture, and to give students avenues to pursue their dreams in higher education.
Even though it is the first year in my school, the way my students make me feel appreciated and valued is unmatched.
They welcomed me with open arms. I cannot wait to see them grow and fulfill their dreams in college, the military, the workforce, and beyond.
My Project
Class of 2018 Decision Day is an event to celebrate the accomplishments of the graduating seniors who have plans to enroll in college, enlist in the military, or go straight into the work force after graduation.
This event is a part of former First-Lady Michelle Obama's College Signing Day Initiative from her organization Better Make Room.
This event is meant to propagate the college-going-culture at my school that I have built throughout this year by helping students plan their educational futures.
This event will take place during the school day so that all seniors who have indicated that they are enrolling in college, enlisting in the military, or have a job lined up after high school can attend. As a part of this project, there are decorations to make the space feel festive, candy and food to create a festive environment, and plates, napkins and cups to make the event functional. I want my seniors to know that I am so proud of them.
There will be various activities such as a College Alumni Panel, a photo booth, and games.
The school has limited funding to provide for this event since we are a public school in North Carolina, which is why I am dependent on donations and things like Donor's Choose!
DonorsChoose is the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
As a teacher-founded nonprofit, we're trusted by thousands of teachers and supporters across the country. This classroom request for funding was created by Ms. Bubak and reviewed by the DonorsChoose team.
