My Students

Hello everyone! I teach English Language Arts to about 150 amazing 7th graders. Everyone is so happy to be back to in-person school during this pandemic. The reading grade levels in my classes span from 3rd grade to high school. You can imagine that my class library needs to be varied and interesting.

Because of the pandemic and quarantining , students missed out on so much learning with their teachers.

When our students came back to in person learning, their reading levels were seriously below grade level. Our school has made reading a focus this year in every classroom.

My students are varied in reading levels, interests, cultures, ethnicities, and abilities. They want to read what interests them. Having both fiction and non-fiction texts in a variety of subjects would be a great asset in our classroom.

My Project

The novel sets I have chosen are stories that can captivate my students' imagination. I chose two fantasy/sci fi and one realistic novel. As the diversity of my students change every year, I find I need more current story lines to present to them.

When we read together as a class, we can share examples of figurative language, special writing tricks that authors use, and make connections to things we know about.

The novel sets allow each of us a connection to one another and helps us learn from each other.
