My students need more literature to enjoy. I work with emergent readers and the ability to give them books that make them fall in love with reading is my greatest weapon.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I have fourteen kindergarten and first-grade students and we are on an Indian Reservation in Michigan's Upper Penninsula. We are a low-income school which offers free breakfast and lunch to all students. We appreciate any help that we can get in our classroom.
We love to read!
We love to explore really good early childhood literature. We use it to enhance our vocabulary and become better readers and writers. We are constantly trying to improve our classroom library. The books we request will make an excellent addition!
My Project
I chose only award-winning books and stories that will encourage beginning readers to ask for more. With your help, we will continue to grow our classroom library as it becomes the focal point of our room. We have slowly "weeded" it out, ridding it of Disney and popular cartoon books, which have been given away to our students to encourage reading at home. It is now loaded with the works of Roald Dahl, Shel Silverstein, Leo Leonni, Ezra Jack Keats, and other well known early literacy authors.
Thank you so much for supporting our classroom, students, and the literature we enjoy.
