My students need books for the class library, a display to highlight new and intriguing books, a rug for a gathering place and comfy chairs and pillows for reading.
I want my students to love reading as much as I do. To help them find this love of reading, they need access to good books and a comfy place to read those good books. This project will give that to them.
I teach a highly diverse group of amazing third graders.
They are warm, caring and giving students. But, for many of them, reading is a dreaded chore. I'm hoping that by exposing them to great books and giving them cozy places to read, they will go from viewing reading as a chore and start to see it as a wonderful joy and escape.
My Project
My students gather on the floor frequently for short lessons. This rug will not only make that gathering place more comfortable, but also more inviting. Additionally, it will provide a comfy place for students to read a good book. I'm also asking for a book display so I can highlight new, different and interesting books to help tempt my students into trying new reading materials. Finally, these books will help create a robust library full of books designed to appeal to young readers.
Students can't become better readers unless they read.
But, they won't want to read unless they have interesting books to read. Therefore, this project will help tempt my students into becoming true readers and stronger readers. Hopefully, it will be one important part of helping them become better readers who love to learn.
