Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are creative, enthusiastic learners, and they love to think outside of the box! Instead of wrapping up our geography unit with a test, for example, we created 3D maps of our beloved state, painted, labeled, and added unique and personal touches that illustrated all we'd learned about maps, landforms, and Texas regions. We concluded our poetry unit by hosting a "poetry cafe," complete with "coffee" (hot cocoa) and rich literature read out loud by our student writers.
My Project
With this project, we will be able to set up a classroom economy system in which students earn "class cash" by completing classroom job duties, outstanding attendance (which is a huge issue at our school), demonstrating growth on diagnostic assessments and other positive behaviors worth rewarding. My students are motivated through tangible rewards and need this to be successful.
Students will be able to choose from a variety of prizes.
Instead of focusing on the negative behaviors (clip down, change your card systems), I am choosing to highlight the positive behaviors in which students are praised and awarded for following the directions and being model students. I am already seeing a huge difference in the little that we have started doing and I can't wait to see even more learning and growth.
I am also requesting paper towels to help us keep our classroom clean and sanitized.
