My third grade students are bright and enthusiastic. They meet my challenging project assignments with creativity and persistence. They attend a very small "gifted magnet" in a public school that is in an urban neighborhood. Their parents have high expectations for their children, but funding in public schools is difficult right now and funding for "gifted" students is at a new low.
My students learn to shoot and edit video.
We're known for our videos and for our musical productions every year but the iMac we have been using for our projects is too old to run current editing software. My students need an iMac so that a small team of students can work on projects in our classroom at the same time.
My Project
We need a new iMac computer that will work well with newer Mac editing and animation software. My students learn to edit in FinalCut Pro. They need to have access to the training that will come from having newer computers in our classroom that run the newer software. Writing and editing a video is an amazing accomplishment for my students and they are very proud every year to say that they are able to produce something on their own. Students experience first hand how much it takes to complete just a few minutes of video. Their understanding of television and film and how they view it is changed forever.
