This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I work at W.P. Elementry School in the Columbus City Schools district. The population is primarily African American. The majority of the students live at or below the poverty line. Unfortunately, many of the students see and experience violence at an early age.
Despite these facts, my students are wonderful, creative children who are eager to learn.
I am fortunate to teach pre-k because this is a time that students are excited about learning. It is my mission to make pre-kindergarten an educational and memorable experience.
My Project
I am requesting a classroom camera with accessories. I take a lot of pictures of my students and use them in such things as slideshows and video productions. I find that sharing these photos and productions with parents increase parent involvement. The result of more parent involvement is an increase in academic performance.
Some of our past projects have included a Father's Morning slideshow, Mother's Day slideshow, class Letter Fashion Show, and a class movie about diversity and superheroes.
I also involve the students with the use of the technology by having them help in the movie editing process. The students love sharing movies and slideshows that they have helped to create. By conducting the editing process with the students, the students are motivated to present educational performances which they help edit and present.
