My Students

Hello, my name is Kayla Nieman and I am a special education teacher at North High School in Sioux City, IA. I work as a co-teacher in our amazing math department and serve students in the areas of algebra and geometry. As co-teachers, we focus on meeting the needs of every student in our classroom. The students we work with have a variety of needs; however, regardless of their needs, every student needs access to a calculator. We aim to teach each student how to use their resources to be successful both in and out of the classroom. Each student is hard working and deserves access to every tool possible.

My Project

These Texas Instrument calculators will continue to enhance the classroom that I strive to create. My classroom is a place that my students really enjoy, and calculators help them become independent thinkers! Every calculator that is placed in my room is treated with care. In addition, students are very grateful to have a resource to help them learn. These calculators have been chosen with my students in mind. They are easy to use for all grade levels, learning abilities, and functional for a variety of math courses.

With more than half of students coming from low-income households, the ability for students to provide their own just isn't in the cards.
