This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach middle and high school band in a high-needs community. The school district is very small and in an urban setting. Our students all receive free lunch and breakfast. Even though the school and community have financial difficulties, my students come to school eager and ready to learn. The financial hardships do not interfere with their desire to learn and be the best they can be.
I am very fortunate to teach in a district where the students want to excel and work very hard.
My Project
Have you ever played a reed instrument? If you have, you know that reeds are very delicate and can break easily. Reeds are also very expensive. My students cannot afford to purchase reeds and a music store is not easily accessible to them. My band program is growing and we have quite a few clarinet players who need reeds to play their instruments.
Reeds are essential in making beautiful clarinet sounds.
A broken reed will produce sounds that are not pleasing to the ear. A new reed will produce beautiful music. Please consider helping my students continue to make beautiful music.
