Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a K-8 school in a inner city district in CT. Our student population is around 500 students, with 200 students in the middle school. We have a high level of poverty with close to 90% of our students receiving reduced price or free lunch. Our students are fun loving and enjoy learning and working in and around our community.
Our music program has grown so much with the help of donors like you!
We have developed school wide talent shows, musicals, community service opportunities, performance opportunities, and the creation of the school band. Our students have been increasing their level of playing, audition for ALL City and CT Regionals! Most of this growth would not have occurred without the special people in our lives who have donated a great deal to us.
My Project
Beginning clarinet players go through reeds like water! Learning a new instrument is so much fun, that they practice more, and in turn, they endanger their reeds more! The typical beginning clarinet player goes through 5-10 reeds in their first year! Our students do not have access to a nearby music store in order to buy their own reeds. Many of our students don't have a family vehicle to get to the closest music store which is over a half an hour away! Our students are desperate to restock our reed supply to get them through the remainder of the year!
