This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
In my classroom: We strive to be the best we can be at all times. We seek knowledge, so we can understand the world we live in. And we develop wisdom knowing that someday we will be the ones to lead and take care of this country.
Our school is a school in Hillsborough County serving students in 6th through 8th grade, with a population of around 100 students.
The school is unique, not only because of its small size, but also its student demographics. Ninety-eight percent of the student population is eligible to receive free or reduced price lunch, and over 90% of students reside in single parent households. In spite of their socioeconomic conditions the students are performing better and surpassing those in many traditional public schools. At our school, we have pledged to deliver programs to increase the critical success of our children. Our mission is to provide educational programs and services that foster improved academic success and wellness. To do this, we must have funding that will support our efforts.
My Project
Currently, my classes do not have enough books for each student to take one home. This reduces their ability to study at home or away from school. These workbooks will allow my students more access to much needed practice materials as we prepare for the Civics EOC exam.
This project will provide my students with additional resources so that they will (at least) be more prepared for their upcoming examinations and for the rest of their academic futures.
