Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our 100-year-old school is a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural school, serving students in PK through 8th grade. We celebrate diversity on a daily basis and look for ways to create a positive learning environment that appeals to all types of learners. We are nestled in a south side Chicago neighborhood, walking distance from a large university.
Physical Education is the place to be!
I believe that one of the most important things that we can teach children is how to become a healthy adult! In my P.E. class we cover various sports and games to expose students to an activity that may enjoy throughout their lifetime!
My Project
The Ray Olympics is the oldest school tradition started in 1994! At the end of the school year each grade level celebrates by competing in various athletic activities such as ball throw, standing long jump, basketball free throw, fifty yard dash and many more. Each year I try to make it even better and more organized than the last!
We need a printer/copier/ scanner that can keep up with us!
There are MANY individualized announcements I send home to students and parents, so they know what to expect on their Olympic Day. We are in need of certificates because there are also hundreds of certificates I print out for students in recognition of their accomplishments. Over the years our Olympic equipment has taken a beating and are in need of replacement for the events to run smoothly. The events are completely student run and having functioning judging tools (i.e. stopwatches) is a must!
Help us with a few updated tools! We hope to keep the Ray Olympics tradition alive and well for decades to come!
