My students need a new rug for circle time puzzles, word builders and ten frames to keep them engaged in independent work at centers time.
My first grade class has many hopes and dreams for this school year. They want to learn "harder math", read the morning message and read chapter books. To accomplish their dreams we will need to be fully engaged in learning. A new "teaching rug" and center supplies will help us on our way!
Our school is in an urban area and over 95% of students qualify for free and reduced price lunch.
These students face daily struggles that come with living in an economically challenged environment which makes a great day at school so important. They deserve the teaching tools needed to help them get a quality education. Current cuts in education funding makes needed supplies hard to get. This grant will help us get the supplies we need.
Today if you walked into my classroom you would see two different color carpets placed side by side in our room. We use these to sit on for circle time. Many edges are trimmed in duct tape to keep them from fraying. We make this work, but just think how much more a new high quality carpet with a map of the United States, including mountain ranges and bodies of water, will do for these first graders! We will learn about our country just by checking out where we are sitting!
We spend a lot of time in a circle at the carpet learning together and a new rug will make this time more inviting.
We also use the carpet during centers when the children are working independently while I work with a group on guided reading. The more engaged the students are in their centers - the easier it is for me to keep focused on guided reading! The puzzles, games and supplies will allow me to keep the center activities interesting. The ink is for printing grade level books with the student's name them.
Your donation will help make our room more inviting and interesting for first grade learners!
WOW! Students have the chance for increased positive experiences in school!
The map of the United States carpet provides coast-to-coast exploring at circle time and a much improved learning environment. The center supplies will significantly help the students become independent learners. This is a big win-win situation! Your donation can help make this happen. Please support this project!
