I teach at Blythe Academy (an urban language school) in Greenville, South Carolina. Our students always enjoy our fairy-tale unit and get excited when we read fairy-tales from other countries of the world. Since our school is a language magnet school, students have been exposed to other cultures, but are often unfamiliar with the various versions of their favorite fairy-tales, such as Cinderella, that originated from these countries. During our fairytale unit, students read a different version of Cinderella each day as they chart the story elements on a graph for comparison. Students also create their own invitation to a ball and create story quilts about their favorite versions in order to write and publish their very own version of Cinderella! To complete this unit I need many different versions of Cinderella. In the past, we have checked these out from the local library, but we would like our own set for our classroom because the books are often-checked out when we need them. This is also a unit that our entire grade-level does (150 students), which makes it very hard to share the one copy found at the library. Another set of these Cinderella books would assure that all students have a chance to read all of the versions. By having them in our classroom at all times, I'm sure the students will enjoy these fairy-tale books over and over again throughout the school year. Thank you in advance for your consideration.
