My students need high impact flooring for their weight room that is still being put together. The flooring is literally the foundation of the training space. Making it hard to finish this project without these pieces.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The students that attend our school are the pioneer class of what we all hope, and believe, will become one of the best places within the city of Cleveland to earn an education. In its first year, our school hallways have been blessed with amazing young men and women, who understand the risks that are necessary to create and accomplish a vision.
Coming from various walks of life, all from within and around our city, these students embody what it looks like to be a team.
Starting in August as individuals, they have grown together to form a bond that for some will never be broken. These kids make it easy to wake up every day and be determined to create as many as opportunities for them as possible, so that they may continue to progress in life and accomplish the dreams and goals that they have set for themselves in the near and far future.
My Project
In the first year of our school, we have worked hard to get a legitimate sports program off of the ground. Though challenging at times, our student-athletes have made the best with the situations they are presented with. It is my intent to create a space for these kids to take their game to the next level. A place where they can go to work their craft, hone their skills and improve their overall athletic ability in both team and individual workouts.
In our first year as a school, our soccer, volleyball, rowing, rugby, boys' and girls' basketball and boys' and girls' track teams, have all had to make due with very limited training space.
It can never be right to expect individuals to reach their full potential at any given level if they are not at the very least provided with the necessary means to do so. The flooring we have asked for help in purchasing is incredibly crucial to the completion of providing our kids with an adequate training space. Without it, we will continue to have had to hold off on bringing in necessary equipment that our kids could be utilizing right now. With the flooring in place, our student-athletes will be able to use and complete a variety of different equipment and workouts to improve their skill. From plyometrics to Olympic weightlifting, this high impact flooring will allow all 8 of our current sports teams, along with the ones we plan to implement in the future, to workout without worrying about damaging the newly renovated building itself. With this room finished and put together, it will be the next step for our budding sports program. Along with this, it will take our student-athletes' confidence in their school, and also in themselves, to the level.
