Help me give my students the chance to learn how to help the environment in small ways. We want to put the worm composting bin in the classroom to produce less trash.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are in south east side Houston, TX in a low income school, and I am constantly impressed by our students dedication to their education in the face of dealing with many other life situations that typically successful teens do not deal with on a daily basis. Many of our students might work, and are often responsible for helping out their working parents, in addition to being dedicated to making good grades and getting into college. I love watching them grow, learn, and mature.
I, myself, and the team of teachers I work with are dedicated to helping these students achieve their goals.
I love my students, and try my hardest to provide everything I can for them. Unfortunately much of what I would love to do for them is outside of the scope of my financial ability. I don't want that to stop me from trying to do as much as I can to make their time at school as great as I can. Most of their day is spent here at school, and I want to do as much as I can to make it welcoming and supportive.
My Project
As a part of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, our students are encouraged to explore ways they can address global issues right here from Houston, TX. In researching renewable energy with my class, different ways to compost came up. We want to try to start a movement at the high school to create a more environmentally conscious student body. One of our goals is to show the community that we can work hard together to create a better world for everyone, and encourage them to get involved. We are hoping that it might even show the school district that together we can solve the problem of having a tremendous amount of waste produced during school lunch. There is a follow up plan to hopefully use the rich soil production to build a vegetable garden at the school.
