College Signing Day is an annual event at our school which celebrates our seniors' post-secondary plans. We promote our district's mission of preparing an unprecedented number of students to be college and/or career ready regardless of demographic factors by holding a school-wide assembly to recognize the seniors' decision to go to a 4 year university, join the military, attend a trade-school, community college or enter directly into the workforce. Much work is put into helping our students plan their futures by our entire staff and this big event celebrates our students' transition to college or the next chapter in their life.
Honoring our students' decisions about their future promotes a school-wide college-going culture especially for our low-income students and first generation college students.
This year we are excited to recognize our 150 senior students at this event and inspire the other 675 members of the student body to start setting goals to be future ready. Even though we are not able to be all together at CHS for Signing Day this year, we will still be holding this event virtually this year and excited to continue this tradition for our 2020 Senior Class.
My Project
We hope to celebrate our students for their perseverance in applying and being accepted to college and planning for their future by giving our deserving students the requested dorm room essential items.
Many of our students are from low income families or are the first generation to attend college and these items will help them as they transition into the more independent stage of their life.
These items will be given away at our College Signing Day assembly. The items requested will be useful to those that receive the items as they transition into dorm or college life. For many of our students, financing college will be a monumental task, so by providing our students with refrigerators, microwaves, fans, coffee pots, and laundry essentials we hope to give them an extra appreciated boost as they start their college career. These items we carefully selected to make that first year at college a little more comfortable so our students can focus on the academic challenges colleges bring.
This is our 4th year doing a Decision Day event and we know the addition of these very special give-away items will boost the student morale and make this an unforgettable experience even if it takes place virtually!
