This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach a first grade class of 27 students in an urban school district in a high-needs community. The biggest obstacle for my students is the violence that they witness in their community outside of the school day; however, in our classroom, they are safe, interactive, and eager to learn.
Even though I teach general education, many of my students have learning disabilities that often disrupt learning.
Technology will help to keep my students actively engaged in such a huge classroom.
My Project
“We need technology in every classroom and in every student and teacher’s hand, because it is the pen and paper of our time, and it is the lens through which we experience much of our world.” - David Warlick - Technology is a matter of equity.
Technology is the future and my students deserve to be a part of it!
My goal is that each student has a Chromebook.
I am requesting five chromebooks to provide visual, kinesthetic and auditory learning and scaffolding during science and math lessons. Computers can bring math and science alive in the classroom. For math, students will use them to support the lesson that we are covering. Our math program allows for personalized review targeted toward the students' needs. We will also use other websites for this as well. For our language arts block, the Chromebooks will be a part of our daily literacy centers. Each day a group of kids will go to a site that allows them to read books at their level. For science and social studies, the Chromebooks will be helpful by actually showing the concept in "real life." For example, students can see how weather can be dangerous. The area where we live does not allow for the student to experience different types of weather. Instead of showing a picture of a tornado or blizzard, students can see the real thing!
